Cause and Effect / Targeting Activities
Cause and effect / targetting activities For many of our pupils, access to the computer requires the use of some assistive input device such as a switch or a touch screen. Priory Woods has developed a range of motivating programs to help our pupils develop the skills needed to use these devices in a meaningful way. Switch 'videos' are simple slideshows animations set to music which can be operated by switch or touch-screen. They feature sounds and images from
popular music and TV shows and can be used with pupils of all ages. Go
Interactive Talking books
Interactive Talking books Children of all ages enjoy reading or looking at books. Stories are a firm favourite with our pupils especially when they write them themselves. Like many schools, we create lots of 'big books' with our pupils, many for use on an interactive whiteboard. Our pupils may struggle with writing but give them a digital camera and they can tell a story in pictures. Here is a collection of some of the books we have made in school.
We hope you find them a useful source of ideas. Go
Useful educational programs
Useful Educational Programs As teachers, we understand the very positive impact of ICT both as a tool to enable access and as a medium to enrich the learning experiences of our pupils. Our kids enjoy using ICT and we seek to embed it wherever it is appropriate in our lessons. However, finding relevant software is not always possible. To this end, we have developed a number of simple programs to support specific curriculum areas.
These programs can be run online or downloaded for Mac and PC

Curriculum Policies and other documents
Bugz on an interactive whiteboard Many of the teachers who visit our school request copies of our curriculum policies and schemes of work, which we supply on a CD. In this section of our web site, you can view or download many of our curriculum documents and schemes of work which you are free to adapt and use in your school. This area is continually being expanded to include documents as are they are updated and re-written.
Recent additions include our revised numeracy and 'study support' policies. Go
Lesson Plans and Teaching Ideas
Bugz on an interactive whiteboard This section of our web site contains a range of lesson plans and teaching ideas that you can view online or download and adapt for your school. At present, lesson planning for KS3 / 4 (PMLD / SLD) Science is available to download although we hope to expand this in the very near future. Differentiation is key to effective teaching for children with severe and profound learning difficulties especially as, like we many schools now have
'inclusive' classes. We hope you find them a useful source of ideas. Go
